Rubber Stable Floor

The most common type of stable floor is concrete. However, many stable owners are covering their concrete floors with rubber, which offers a number of advantages:

  • Yielding. A concrete floor is very hard and can cause various types of injuries. For example, when getting up from a prone position, a horse can scrape skin off against the concrete. Also, if the bedding is thin, walking on the hard concrete can stress joints, potentially injure feed, or cause sore points where the horse lies down to rest or sleep. A rubber surface provides a softer and more yielding surface, which minimizes the rick of such injuries.
  • Warmth. Rubber is naturally insulating, which is more comfortable and healthier for horses, especially in winter.
  • Traction. Concrete and wooden floors can be slippery when wet; rubber provide better traction and thereby reduces the risk of injury to horses.
  • Bedding. Rubber performs some of the functions of bedding (e.g. insulation, traction, shock absorption, softer surface), reducing the amount of bedding required. Stable owners, on average, report that they require only half as much bedding with a rubber stable floor as with concrete floors. This results in a considerable saving in bedding, labour and storage costs.
There are two solutions for providing a rubber stable floor. One is rubber stall mats which one lays on top of an existing floor (e.g. on top of a concrete floor) and join together to form a interlocking rubber floor mats. The other solution consists of liquid rubber which is poured onto the concrete floor and then allowed to harden (this takes one or two days) to form a single rubber surface which covers the entire floor. The term 'liquid rubber' refers to the fact that the rubber is in liquid form when it is initially put onto the stable floor, but it then forms a solid rubber floor. Both solutions have advantages and disadvantages.

Why Use Rubber Flooring

There are many situations where traditional flooring solutions simply will not work. In cases like this, an added degree of durability or safety may be required. Hardwood floors are prone to scratches from abrasion, and may also be too slick in some cases. Carpet frequently does not provide the steady traction or shock absorbing properties needed under some circumstances. Sports facilities such as gyms, ice rinks, and tracks commonly demand a higher level of reliability from their flooring. Rubber flooring is a very simple answer to this problem, as it provides all of the needed properties for an affordable price.

Rubber flooring is both flexible and rigid, giving a high degree of comfort as well as toughness. A rubber floor can absorb the shock of a falling weight, while also maintaining its rigidity under the extremely heavy load of exercise machines. A high quality rubber floor will not tear or rip under pressure. Interlocking Rubber Floor Mats is also very easy to install, as it is usually sold as a set of tiles that interlock. These interlocking rubber floor mats tiles are simple to fit together, and do not require any industrial adhesives. This makes rubber flooring an environmentally friendly option, especially when recycled rubber is used in its construction.

Rubber sold as gym flooring commonly has a great traction surface that prevents any dangerous tendency to slip. The antislip surface is usually double sided, ensuring that the rubber flooring will remain in place, while also preventing those on it from falling. This is essential in a sports facility, where safety is of great concern. Rubber flooring will absorb the shock and noise of a falling weight, where concrete and hardwood would crack and suffer permanent damage.

Commercial Mats and Rubber is a large manufacturer of rubber flooring, specifically engineered for use in sports facilities. Their Diamond Mega Tiles are great for use in a gym, and provide great protection against falling weights, as well as a high traction surface on both sides. Diamond Tiles are made with an interlocking design, making them very simple to install without any professional assistance. The Diamond Tiles are available in a wide range of colors and textures. The tiles are produced with high strength rubber that will not tear or rip under great loads, but remain firmly in place as they must.

Interlocking Rubber Floor Mats Home Gym Premium Rubber Tiles provides the same benefits as our other virgin rubber tiles, but in a more economical 1/4 inch thickness that is more than tough enough for your heaviest strength and cardio equipment.

Home Gym Premium Rubber Tiles unique stippled texture and soft designer colors provide an attractive rugged appearance that is especially well suited to home gyms.
